Location:

Situated in the countryside of Bojura, named after the wild Peony, Strandja Complex has a very strategic position midway between the famed Burgas Wetlands and the sparsely populated Sakar Mountains. This makes it an ideal stop-over location for either travelling birders or nature lovers. In spring the ancient oak forest around is alive with the songs of woodland birds and the drumming of Black, Grey-headed, Middle Spotted, Green and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers plus Wryneck. Passerines include Howfinch, Redstart (samamisicus ssp), Wood Warbler, Short-toed Treecreeper and Marsh Tit. To emphasise the South-European flavour of the site, within 20 minutes drive it’s possible to see Masked Shrike, Ortolan Bunting, Isabelline Wheatear, Lesser Spotted, Short-toed and Booted Eagles and above all the Eastern Imperial Eagle. The Lesser Kestrel Recovery Programme is in progress about 120 km away, just before the Turkish border where visitors can see this charismatic species on their way to the Eastern Rhodope Mountains.

Services:

Due to the complex’s proximity to Burgas (30 km) and Sredets (6 km), this establishment tends to be busy at week-ends, so for those seeking peace and tranquillity a mid week visit (Monday to Thursday inclusive) is recommended. The complex provides a rural restaurant and traditional Bulgarian tavern offering the best of local and international cuisine and a wide selection of wines. In addition there are several open air barbecue facilities, which allow guests to fully enjoy the outdoor experience. Bird guides from Burgas are available by prior arrangement and we recommend that those requiring this service should request this in advance.

Guestrooms:

Strandja Tourist Complex consists of a comfortable three star hotel offering a panoramic view above the beautiful oak forest. Accommodation comprises of five double, two triple and three single en-suite rooms and two spacious apartments. In addition, there are three detached cottages, each containing four double en-suite rooms plus eight fully reconstructed and renovated bungalows comprising of two double en-suite rooms in each unit.
