The Farm Inn is situated on an organic cacao farm 21 miles inland from Punta Gorda in the Toledo District of Belize. Located in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, it is midway between the Mayan villages of San Antonio and Santa Cruz. The area surrounding The Farm Inn is rich with lush jungle and towering trees, dotted with small milpas (corn fields). Easily accessible on a recently paved road, it is still a remote area with little traffic.
Regular internal flights link the Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize City with the Punta Gorda airport; buses run daily from Belize City to the south and several local buses to Jalacte and Pueblo Viejo pass can stop right at the entrance to The Farm Inn. Travelers coming to Belize from Central America can make use of a daily ferry service from Puerto Barrios in Guatemala.
The 52 acre property has well-marked trails through the cacao fields, surrounding jungle area and along the three creeks on the property. Most trails have a border of jungle undergrowth providing habitats for a wide range of resident and transient species. Commonly seen are ant-tanagers and trogons, toucans and fly-catchers as well as a variety of woodpeckers and woodcreepers.
We are just 9 miles from The Dump, a hotspot for water birds, and close to caves, waterfalls and Mayan ruins, all good locations for birding.

Wifi is available only in the restaurant area; a selection of field guides and other literature is available here as well. Our garden feeder regularly attracts orange billed sparrows, while long-billed hermits and rufous-tailed hummingbirds chase each other around the red ginger flowers which grow around the accommodation areas. It is even possible to watch early birds hunting for breakfast in the leaf litter on the jungle floor from the comfort of your bed in one of the garden rooms through the large shuttered windows.
Coffee/tea is available early. Breakfast can be served early or late, packed lunches are available on request and dinner is a family affair, served after sunset. Beer, sodas, wine and spirits are available at our bar. Laundry can be done on request. The Farm Inn is off the grid; each room is equipped with solar powered lights and fans. A generator is run for a few hours in the evening to provide lighting between the restaurant and the accommodation and for equipment to be charged. At other times ask your host who will be happy to hook up equipment to an inverter to charge. To run C-Pap machines, we will provide an inverter in the guest room.
Transfers can be arranged between Punta Gorda and The Farm Inn. We will also provide drop offs/pick ups from the Rio Blanco National Park and the Uxbenka ruin and nature trail.
Some of the best bird guides in the country call southern Belize home. We will be happy to pair you up with one of these enthusiastic guides to enhance your birding experience. Visit between October and December and join the team involved in the annual migratory raptor count at Cattle Landing near Punta Gorda. On the last Sunday of each month the Toledo Belize Birding Club gets together at a birding hotspot for a few hours and always welcome visiting birders.
The Farm Inn is a 6 room bed and breakfast with an open air restaurant and a small swimming pool. The inn, which has 4 rooms, has two large view verandas looking out into the jungle and over the creek, while the two garden rooms each have a private veranda looking out into the garden. The three upper floor rooms share a large sitting room area with windows all around. All but one of the rooms has at least two beds (usually queen and a single). The inn has AC in the rooms which will run while the generator is on for a few hours in the evening.
